Mazda manufacture small car in Vietnam

Mazda officially announced to produce small car, known as Mazda Demio2 (Japanese name Demio) in Vietnam from Oct 2011 due to the exchange rate. The aim to produce 2000 unit in a year. All the parts will be exported out of Japan to the joined venture company in Vietnam.

 

Mazda has just begun selling in Vietnam in early March this year, “having a population of 90 million around the following 30s, growth potential in the future” (director Yuji Nakamine) were determined.

 

Mazda is planning to raise more than 40-50% from the current ratio to total worldwide sales in emerging countries by 2015, has as one of the important markets in Southeast Asia in particular. Enhanced local production also aims to respond to the rapid appreciation of the yen. Mazda, in Malaysia in January this year, “Mazda3 (Axela in Japan),” Production (3,000 units) began, considering that the start of assembly production in Indonesia.


Nissan pushes for foreign executive majority by 2016

Nissan Motor Co. plans to fill the majority of its top-ranking posts with non-Japanese by the end of fiscal 2016, according to sources.

Non-Japanese officials, such as directors and presidents of overseas units, currently account for 44 people of Nissan’s 100 executives. The automaker intends to hire talented local people at its overseas units to accelerate its global advancement strategy, the sources said.

Domestic companies seldom allow a majority of executive positions to be occupied by non-Japanese. Industry observers have pointed out that other Japanese companies could follow Nissan’s lead.

Currently, four out of nine Nissan directors at its headquarters are not Japanese, and nearly three-quarters of executive positions at its overseas subsidiaries have been filled with non-Japanese.

At Nissan, it is mandatory that English is spoken at meetings if at least one non-Japanese person is in attendance.

The nation’s second-largest automaker has also introduced a personnel management system in which employees are promoted and paid based on ability and performance, regardless of nationality.

The automaker has drawn up a midterm management plan in which it aims to boost global sales from the current 4 million units annually to more than 7 million units by the end of fiscal 2016. The company apparently views more non-Japanese executives as essential to reaching this goal.

Yutaka Suzuki, chief economist at Daiwa Institute of Research, said: “Less than 5 percent of listed domestic companies have non-Japanese executives at their headquarters. Nissan’s move may increase employment [in other companies] of non-Japanese people [for executive posts].”

Toyota, Ford to jointly develop hybrid SUVs and light trucks

Toyota Motor Corp. and Ford Motor Co. have reached a preliminary agreement to jointly develop a hybrid system for sport-utility vehicles and light trucks.

The formal agreement is expected by next year, the companies said Monday in a joint statement.

The automakers will individually integrate the jointly developed technology into their vehicles.

In March 2004, Ford licensed hybrid technology from Toyota and has since developed its own hybrid vehicles by taking advantage of Toyota’s patented expertise in motors and engines.

However, the U.S. automaker apparently believes that working together with Toyota, which has advanced hybrid technology, would be more beneficial.

According to the statement, Toyota and Ford also have agreed to collaborate in the development of standards for built-in communications systems used in vehicles such as plug-in hybrids.

How, where and what  JAAI Inspection Look For

Inspection Criteria

1. Functionality: To ensure safe driving in compliance with the safety regulations.

2. Exterior appearance:

No dimples or bumps that require panel work extending over an area greater than a quarter of the affected

panel.

Corrosion must be repaired (Repair work using aluminum foil tape, etc., is not acceptable).

Any rusted or exposed surfaces must be painted.

3. Interior appearance:

The interior must be tidy without any excessive staining, etc.

The size of any damage to the seat covers, interior walls, sealing, etc. must not exceed 10 cm for a passenger

car, or 30 cm for a commercial or freight vehicle (Repair work using adhesive tape is not acceptable).

4. The windshield has no cracks or breakage greater than 1 cm.

Wiper blade scratches must not obstruct the visibility of the driver.

5. The engine and other portion under the body must be cleanly washed.

Rusted parts must be painted with chassis black.

6. Tires must be in compliance with the safety regulations.

7. The odometer was not replaced or tampered.

***case the Odometer Certificate is required from the importing countries or the Odometer Certificate.


Inspection certificate
The Inspection Certificate and the Odometer Inspection Certificate are issued for the vehicle that passes the inspection.

Sequential Number

The first character vehicle identification number (VIN) serial number identifies the country from which the vehicle was manufactured.

First vehicle identification number digit: U.S.A.(1 or 4), Canada (2), Mexico (3), Japan (J), Korea (K), England (S), Germany (W), Italy (Z)

Second vehicle identification number digit specifies the manufacturer. Audi (A), BMW (B), Buick (4), Cadillac (6), Chevrolet (1), Chrysler (C), Dodge (B), Ford (F), GM Canada (7), General Motors (G), Honda (H), Jaguar (A), Lincoln (L), Mercedes Benz (D), Mercury (M), Nissan (N), Oldsmobile (3), Pontiac (2 or 5), Plymouth (P), Saturn (8), Toyota (T), Volvo (V).

Third vehicle identification number digit indicates the vehicle type or manufacturing division.

Fourth through eighth vehicle identification number digit reveals the vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.

The ninth vehicle identification number digit is a VIN accuracy check digit, verifying the previous VIN numbers. This is how the check digit works

STEP 1

Assign to each number in the VIN its actual mathematical value and assign to each letter the value specified for it in the following chart:

STEP 2

Eleventh vehicle identification number digit reveals the assembly plant for the vehicle.

The twelfth to seventeenth vehicle identification number digits indicate the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled of the manufacturers assembly line.


Import duties and regulation change in Sri Lanka

Apr, 25, 2011 – Sri Lanka has raised import duties on several categories of petrol-engined cars with steeper increases seen in larger hybrid vehicles, which had exceptionally low taxes earlier, officials said.

A senior Lanka’s Treasury said there were revisions on several categories of vehicles. On petrol cars with standard engines with capacities below 1,000 cubic centimeters the effective total tax rate will go up from the current 95 percent to 120 percent.

Between 1000 to 1,600 cc the effective rate will go up from 119 to 128 percent. On three wheelers the effective rate will go up from 38 percent to 50 percent.

On hybrid cars with engines below 2,000 cubic centimeters total duties will go up from 38 percent close to 50 percent.

Deputy director general of customs Ajantha Dias said an excise duty was raised by 8.0 percent but it will take up the total duties by a larger amount when added together.

On hybrids between 2,000 to 3000 cc duty will go up close to 75 percent and above 3,000 cc to 100 percent.

In the past two months about 3,000 hybrids have been imported to the country,

“Excise duty category for all vehicles (including hybrid) increased wef from last night. Not sure about the exact figures.

Also maximum import limit is set to 2 years (instead of 3.5 years).”
