Inspection Criteria

1. Functionality: To ensure safe driving in compliance with the safety regulations.

2. Exterior appearance:

No dimples or bumps that require panel work extending over an area greater than a quarter of the affected

panel.

Corrosion must be repaired (Repair work using aluminum foil tape, etc., is not acceptable).

Any rusted or exposed surfaces must be painted.

3. Interior appearance:

The interior must be tidy without any excessive staining, etc.

The size of any damage to the seat covers, interior walls, sealing, etc. must not exceed 10 cm for a passenger

car, or 30 cm for a commercial or freight vehicle (Repair work using adhesive tape is not acceptable).

4. The windshield has no cracks or breakage greater than 1 cm.

Wiper blade scratches must not obstruct the visibility of the driver.

5. The engine and other portion under the body must be cleanly washed.

Rusted parts must be painted with chassis black.

6. Tires must be in compliance with the safety regulations.

7. The odometer was not replaced or tampered.

Inspection certificate
The Inspection Certificate and the Odometer Inspection Certificate are issued for the vehicle that passes the inspection.

Apr, 25, 2011 – Sri Lanka has raised import duties on several categories of petrol-engined cars with steeper increases seen in larger hybrid vehicles, which had exceptionally low taxes earlier, officials said.

A senior Lanka’s Treasury said there were revisions on several categories of vehicles. On petrol cars with standard engines with capacities below 1,000 cubic centimeters the effective total tax rate will go up from the current 95 percent to 120 percent.

Between 1000 to 1,600 cc the effective rate will go up from 119 to 128 percent. On three wheelers the effective rate will go up from 38 percent to 50 percent.

On hybrid cars with engines below 2,000 cubic centimeters total duties will go up from 38 percent close to 50 percent.

Deputy director general of customs Ajantha Dias said an excise duty was raised by 8.0 percent but it will take up the total duties by a larger amount when added together.

On hybrids between 2,000 to 3000 cc duty will go up close to 75 percent and above 3,000 cc to 100 percent.

In the past two months about 3,000 hybrids have been imported to the country,

That’s the word from Stephen Cadiz, the Minister of Trade and Industry. In a telephone interview, Cadiz said, following Tuesday’s consultation with used car dealers, he was briefed that a six-year-old vehicle from Asian markets was in similar mechanical condition as a four-year-old vehicle.

The six-year-old vehicle could be sold to consumers at a reduced cost. Cadiz said the ministry’s investigation should be completed in two weeks. Dennis Ramdhan, the owner of D and D Auto World Limited of St Mary’s Village Carapichima, Central’s largest used car dealer, said prices should drop by 30–40 per cent. Ramdhan said this means that a foreign-used car may sell for as little as $60,000.

Citing an example, he said, a Nissan Wingroad presently costs consumers around $110,000 but could go down to about $80,000. Ramdhan said dealers with existing stocks would have to bite the bullet and sell cars cheaper since a larger turnaround is anticipated should car prices drop. He believes that banks should not have an problems to financing cars since they had done it in the past when the age of the vehicles were allowed. Ramdhan said throwing out the quota system was a plus since it would allow for more competition and lower prices on the market.

The import tax on hybrid vehicles which have been used below three and a half years will be reduced from 30% to 15%, Deputy Finance Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena told Ada Derana. He said this reduction is effective immediately and was taken as a step towards environmental conservation.

What is JAAI (Japan Auto Appraisal Institute)inspection?

Accurate inspection using the latest inspection equipment, including test equipment for the speedometer, brakes, wheel alignment, and emission gas, is essential to ensure vehicle driving safety. JAAI gives passing grades to those vehicles for which the basic safety functions of “driving, cornering, and stopping” have been approved.

The interior and exterior of vehicles are thoroughly inspected during the appearance inspection. In particular, vehicle chassis are confirmed by inspectors who actually go underneath the vehicles. As a result, even hidden traces of accidents can be found.

After passing JAAI’s inspection, a label is attached to the vehicle and a certifcation in English is issued. Because JAAI stores related documents for a period of one year after vehicle inspection, JAAI is able to respond to inquiries on a vehicle’s condition, manufacturing year, grade, equipment, and driving distance at the time of inspection.

The standards and regulations on vehicle safety vary in each country, but JAAI is able to conduct inspections according to the conditions set in each country by flexibly altering the inspection details.

JAAI inspection certificate fee of 20,000 yen will be added your car cost.
